Do you have joint pain? What about anxiety? Depression? Crohn’s disease? Do you have an older dog that has trouble getting around? Arlington’s newest business has a product that they believe can help all of that.

Your CBD Arlington, located at 460 Massachusetts Ave., sells CBD oil, chemical compounds known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis or marijuana plant. Unlike medicinal marijuana, CBD oil does not contain Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the main psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis, which creates the sensation of getting high. As a result, CBD oil provides many of the same health benefits as medicinal marijuana without any psychedelic side-effects.

Bryan Mason, owner of Your CBD Arlington, became involved in the store when a co-worker at his job mentioned the business opportunity. Mason had prior experience working in retail and decided to invest the rapidly growing field by becoming a franchise owner for the Your CBD chain. While looking for the perfect location, the Wilmington native settled on Arlington, in part because of the area’s historical legacy.

“I’m a big history buff, and having a store in Arlington, with it’s connection to the American Revolution, I thought it would be a cool to have a store in the area,” Mason said. “I did a lot of research on the location; I was told in business that you want to walk around a neighborhood and see the other businesses, get to know the populations, and understand the area. I probably walked around the area 10 times before settling on this location.”

(function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(d.getElementById(id))return;js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src=’https://embed.playbuzz.com/sdk.js’;fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}(document,’script’,’playbuzz-sdk’));

Mason said that things came together fast for the new business as he balanced his research with his full-time job working in telecommunications. To help get the business off the ground, he relied on those close to him to help out.

“Getting the business off the ground took about four months, but so much work went into it, it felt like seven or eight months jammed into four,” Mason said. “My mom came up from Florida, she has helped out with the business. My girlfriend Stefanie has also been a big part of the store; she is a nurse and wrote her thesis in school about CBD oil; she had undergone four shoulder surgeries and discovered how much CBD helped her with the pain.”

Your CBD is the largest brick-and-mortar CBD retailer in the country and in just a few short years, CBD as an industry has gone from virtually unheard of to one of the fastest growing businesses in the country, with experts projecting more than $20 billion in revenue by 2020.

“When we first started working on the store, there were none in Massachusetts, and today there are 10,” Mason said. “Your CBD was only founded a few years ago, and now the chain alone has over 450 locations.”

The store in Arlington sells mainly oils, which some say  can help relieve pain and stress, while also working as an anti-inflammatory agent in the heart and digestive system. Some say the benefits extend to pets, and the store sells specialized, veterinary-approved dog treats can help improve the lives of pets who suffer from similar conditions.

Mason said that while the association of CBD with THC-infused marijuana does turn some people away from the product, most people who come into the store want to be educated about it.

“I have personally lost people to depression and addiction, and we have had people come into the store and tell us that this product has helped them deal with those things and that is great feeling,” he said.

The store had a soft-opening on Sept. 1 and Mason is planning a grand opening on Oct. 13 with events, raffles and other activities.

We study the effects of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that does not produce the high associated with smoking or using it."There is a lot of debate on the health effects of marijuana and the use of cannabinoids, which are a group of compounds found in marijuana that have anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, anti-nausea and anti-emetic properties. However, there is a lack of solid scientific evidence to guide us in the application of cannabis therapeutics."
