LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Lebanon’s planning commission voted to change the zoning for the area of the downtown square to prohibit the sale of CBD oil and products.
According to commission member Dr. Chad Williams, the planning commission recommended a moratorium on CBD to the city council. However, current businesses on the square will be grandfathered in.
Dr. Williams said he told commission members he thought it sets a dangerous precedent to ban a particular product.
One CBD business in the area told NewsChannel 5 that while the moratorium would keep competition from coming to town, it’s also morally wrong.
The owners of Blu’s Everything Hemp said they’ve seen CBD oil help so many people and they don’t why anyone would want to ban it because the substance can’t get people high.
NewsChannel 5 has reached out to the commission member who suggested the ban but has not heard back yet.
