As Christmas approaches we’ve starting seeing all kinds of Christmas-with-a-twist products, from candy cane gin to giant pigs in blankets burgers.

One of the more creative twists we’ve come across is the all new advent calendar featuring Cannabidiol. Yep, you heard us, CBD.

While cannabis is still illegal, CBD is the non-psychoactive bit of hemp and is legal – and currently very en vogue.

Many health and wellness products include it; you can get CBD flavoured sweets and even specialist CBD facials – it’s fair to say the industry has exploded onto the scene this year.

So it should come as no real surprise that the world’s first CBD Chocolate Advent Calendar has been developed by James Ware, a 27-year-old from Earl’s Court.

James said: “CBD is the product of the moment.

“With the craziness of the Christmas countdown, I want to add to that and help ensure people have a very mellow Christmas.

“I was driven to create the calendar by the craziness of the Christmas countdown and wanting to help people find some winter wellness, plus I’m having the special chocolates made by a British chocalatier.”

Each of the calendar’s daily windows house premium milk chocolate containing 10mg of CBD.

The chocolate is handmade to order using only the finest beans, while the CBD contains less than 0.2 per cent THC, in line with UK laws.

The only hitch is that the project needs a bit more funding.

James has launched a Crowdfunding page and needs to raise £11,000 for the advent calendars to be produced, and if you back the project you get an advent calendar delivered to your door before December 1.

We study the effects of cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of cannabis that does not produce the high associated with smoking or using it."There is a lot of debate on the health effects of marijuana and the use of cannabinoids, which are a group of compounds found in marijuana that have anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving, anti-nausea and anti-emetic properties. However, there is a lack of solid scientific evidence to guide us in the application of cannabis therapeutics."
